Historically, making NBA picks has been one of the most difficult tasks in all of sports handicapping. The game has changed some, though, and you need to know about those changes if you are going to be successful.

In the past, the NBA was a league dominated by big men. Because of the rules and how the game was played, a center was the most dominant player on both teams. These days, rule changes have made it much different. Your NBA picks should account for the fact that hand checking is no longer allowed. This means that guards have an advantage. Where the NBA used to be a league dominated by dumping the ball into a big man on the inside, it is now a league where guards do all of the penetrating.

What does this mean for your NBA picks? It means that you have to take notice of those teams with excellent point guards. Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets is a great example of how one great player can turn a mediocre team into a really strong squad. Sometimes being an NBA fan feels like a full time job, consuming time and emotions. At such point do you feel you don't have time to place your bet on your favourite team? Well, think again! This is all very hush, hush and no one is supposed to know, but LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers are starting to talk about a contract extension which will quiet all the free agent talk next season.

Why does LeBron and the Cavs want to keep it quiet? Well, because LeBron James will be the most sot after NBA free agent of all-time.

Michael Jordan may have been a NBA GM's wet dream, but there was no way he was ever going to leave the Chicago Bulls during his prime where as LeBron James actually seems up to the possibility of leaving Cleveland for somewhere like New York maybe!

Will LeBron leave Cleveland? I doubt it, but he has definitely stirred the pot recently and keeps some NBA franchises that can actually afford him with high hopes.

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a pretty interesting offseason thus far. Not only have the only signed one of the three free agents they said they were going to in Shannon Brown, but they also somehow were able to upgrade their defense by adding Ron Artest.

Losing Trevor Ariza to the Houston Rockets was a surprise and not one of the best decisions the Lakers have made over the years, but if they can't manage to make Lamar Odom happy with a new contract they will lose him too.

Surprisingly, not many teams have gone after Lamar Odom since he became a free agent this offseason. The Portland Trailblazers showed some interest, but they preferred Hedo Turkoglu or David Lee.

In an interesting turn of events Odom's former team in the Miami Heat have seem dead set on signing the versatile forward.

So if the Lakers want to be the frontrunner in the West again next season they will need to fork up the cash to keep him.

Despite winning the NBA championship for his hometown team with the Los Angeles Lakers and showing that he can be a big time player in the NBA, Trevor Ariza really isn't feeling the love from a money standpoint from the Lakers as they have only offered him the mid-level exception for about $5.6 million a year.

Ariza has taken that as a slap in the face from the Lakers after playing his heart out in the postseason and throughout the season for that matter. Now the doors are all open for Ariza as he has been shopping around for a suitor.

Of the many teams interested in Ariza the most notable and best possibility is with the Cleveland Cavaliers who seem dead set on signing him.

Here are some other teams interested in the 24 year old kid from LA: Blazers, Clippers, Raptors and Rockets

Coming into both Conference finals the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers looked like the odds on favorites to advance to what is being called a "Dream Finals", but after the first four games in each of these series the NBA Finals match up could be just as easily the complete opposite with the Denver Nuggets taking on the Orlando Magic.

One thing is for certain in both these series so far, both Kobe Bryant and LeBron James are unstoppable, but they are both lacking help from their supporting cast and their teams are really suffering because of it.

Now due to the lack production of LeBron's supporting cast the Cavs are facing elimination going into game five in Cleveland.

Can the Cavs comeback to win the series? Of course. Will it happen? Doubtful.1

The spread on the Cleveland Cavs against the Washington Wizards is 10 points in favor of the Cavs.

Although betting on a team to cover a 10 point victory over an opponent in their house is crazy, the Cavs will cover this spread.

Unless LeBron James comes limping out of the locker room and Gibert Arenas actually plays and lights up the Cavs for 50, then this a game is a lock in my opinion.

The Cavs are the hottest team in the league right now with a 13 game winning streak. If any team in the NBA is going to stop that streak, believe me, it ain't going to be the lowly Wizards.

Take the Cavs to cover the 10 point spread!

As of right now the Suns are favored to beat the Denver Nuggets with a -3.5 point spread. This is ridiculous!

No team in the West or the NBA this season is more up and down then the Phoenix Suns. One game they seem to have their high powered offense firing on all cylinders and the next they look as bad as the Clippers.

One thing is for sure though, the Denver Nuggets are a much better team this season and have developed a great defense to go with a great offense.

The Suns may put up 108 points a game, but they give up 106 at the same time. Both teams are on win streaks at the moment with Phoenix winning four straight and the Nuggets winning five in a row.

This will be a close game, I am not talking about a blowout here, but I can\'t see the Suns beating the Nuggets right now.

No one would argue that as of right now the Los Angeles Lakers are by far the best team in the Western conference if not the entire NBA.

Although the Lakers seem not to be challenged in their conference, there are a few teams that might give them a run for their money as they season gets closer to playoff time.

One of these teams is the Utah Jazz who have seemed to come out of nowhere. The Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs have been playing great basketball all season long, but the Jazz may have passed up both of them.

Injuries plagued the Jazz in the beginning of the season with Carlos Boozer being out a considerable amount of time, but a star emerged with Paul Milsap and picking up the slack for the injured superstar forward alongside point guard phenom Deron Williams.

The Lakers seem like a forgone conclusion for the Western conference title, but the Jazz could be threatening to dethrowne the champs.

It was only a matter of time before six NBA champion Michael Jordan and assist machine John Stockton were eligible for the Basketball Hall of Fame, but the time has finally come and along with David Robinson they are the players that look to be the front runners to be inducted this year.

The Utah Jazz were never the same once they had John Stockton running the point guard position in his infamous short shorts, Stockton was a amazing on the floor with his fundamental domination of the game. He would be a high scoring threat, but he left that up to the other half of the Jazz dynamic duo in Karl Malone. Whether it was his tenacious defense, his accuracy as a shooter or his passing, John Stockton was the total package.

As for Michael Jordan, I am surprised they didn't induct him into the Basketball Hall of Fame the moment he retired for the last time. No player in the history of the NBA has been more dominant at the shooting guard position then the Air Jordan. He was a match up nightmare for an opposing team with the ability to do literally anything on the floor and be the best at it. Scoring, steals, block shots, rebounding you name it, MJ could do it!

In my opinion, there will never be a better player than Michael Jordan. Kobe Bryant and LeBron James may come close, but no tops MJ.

Another day another loser... man my NBA picks have just sucked dick this year thank god I am giving them away for free ( 10 - 24 ) overall.

1 game on the Docket today.

Utah and the Spurs usually play to a slug fest, they have two defensive minded coaches and this usually ends up with the teams fighting it out in a low scoring game. The total as we site here is 193. This seems a little high for this game. I will take the under 193 for a small play, hell at this point anyone who plays my plays should be making small plays.

Spurs/Jazz under 193
